Galagan Art Museum

Located on the territory of the ancient princely city in the architectural monument of the 19th century, even externally it corresponds to the idea of a museum as a place that bears the imprint of time, a reflection of the history and culture of our people. You will be inspired by masterpieces of Western European and Ukrainian art, a unique collection of Galagan Cossack-noble family from the museum collection, numbering more than 16,000 museum objects, including works of fine and decorative arts from the 16th century to the present,  namely iconographic heritage of Ukrainian times. folk paintings “Cossack-Mamai”, paintings by Dutch, Flemish, French, Italian artists.

Prominent in the museum collection are works of icon painting, mostly Ukrainian, including the canonical “Archangel Michael”, a collection of icons of the Virgin, an original folk icon with a unique interpretation of the image of the patron saint, the two-sided icon “The Protection of the Holy Virgin. The Crucifixion”.

The collection of Western European paintings is interesting, in particular due to the works of Italian artists of the 17th-18th centuries. Dutch and Flemish painting acquaints with works of the battle and household genres, various still lifes, paintings on mythological and evangelical subjects. The decoration of the collection, of course, is the painting “Concert” by the famous Dutch artist H.Ya. Terbrugghen, dated 1626.

The art of France of 18-19 centuries is represented by the names of such famous masters as G. Robert, J. Maisonnier, J. Tresser, E. Falcone, F. Pompon.

The largest part of the museum collection consists of works by Ukrainian luminaries of the 20th century – M. Zhuk, M. Samokysh, S. Shyshko, M. Hlushchenko, M. Derehus, T. Yablonska, A. Kotska and many others.

A significant part of the collection consists of works of decorative and applied art of Ukraine, created over almost two centuries. Applique, embroidery and painting, glass and porcelain, ceramics and wood are represented by famous names of the Saienko family, M. Tymchenko, M. Prymachenko, I. Appolonov, H. Denysenko, A. Shtepa and many other famous masters.
